ANOTHER FUNDING LANE FOR NONPROFITS

Turn what your organization already does well into earned revenue.

Grants, donations and sponsorships matter, but they do not have to carry the entire organization. A fee-for-service model allows a nonprofit to charge a reasonable fee for mission-aligned programs, training or services delivered to individuals, agencies, schools, companies or government partners.

Nonprofit does not mean no revenue.

A nonprofit may earn income. The money remains with the organization and is used to support its charitable mission instead of being distributed to private owners.

What can be sold?

  • Workshops, classes and professional training
  • Program delivery under an agency contract
  • Consulting or technical assistance
  • Memberships, program fees or sliding-scale services
  • Curriculum, toolkits and licensed materials
  • Event, facility or equipment access when mission-aligned

Who may pay?

  • City, county, state and federal agencies
  • Schools, colleges and workforce programs
  • Hospitals and healthcare partners
  • Businesses purchasing community services or training
  • Other nonprofits needing a program partner
  • Participants, insurers or third-party sponsors

What should be ready?

  • A clearly defined service and community outcome
  • Capacity, staffing and a delivery timeline
  • Pricing based on the full cost of the work
  • A scope of work, service agreement and invoice process
  • Insurance, licenses and vendor registration when required
  • A way to track results, expenses and contract requirements

BUILD THE MODEL

Start with one service, one buyer and one measurable result.

You do not need to turn every program into a paid service. Choose one area where your organization has proven knowledge, real capacity and a clear benefit to the buyer and community.

  1. 1
    Package the service

Name the problem, what you deliver, who receives it and what changes afterward.

  2. 2
    Price the full work

Include staff time, supplies, administration, insurance, travel, reporting and overhead.

  3. 3
    Find aligned buyers

Look for agencies and institutions already paying to solve the problem your mission addresses.

  4. 4
    Protect the organization

Use written agreements, track restricted costs and review tax or licensing questions before signing.

Keep the mission and compliance connected.

The service should support the organization’s exempt purpose. Income from activities unrelated to the mission may be taxable, and contracts may carry insurance, licensing, reporting or procurement requirements. Before launching, have a nonprofit-qualified accountant or attorney review the model. This information is educational and is not legal or tax advice.

Build my nonprofit revenue strategy

A YOUR SAFE SPACE PATHWAY

Apply to be considered for fiscal sponsorship.

Fiscal sponsorship is separate from PFaye Funding. A charitable project may request review by Your Safe Space (YSS) if its purpose aligns with YSS’s mission and capacity. Use the application below to share the basics; do not send confidential documents or sensitive personal information at this stage.

Mission alignment

The proposed project must serve a charitable purpose that aligns with the mission of Your Safe Space.

Formal review

Interest does not guarantee acceptance. Every request requires review, approval and a written fiscal sponsorship agreement before fundraising begins.

Ongoing accountability

Approved projects must follow reporting, recordkeeping, fund use and program requirements established by Your Safe Space.

Your Safe Space remains responsible for charitable funds received for an approved sponsored project and retains oversight of how those funds are used. Fiscal sponsorship is not guaranteed, is not a grant and is not a way to bypass nonprofit requirements.

HOW FISCAL SPONSORSHIP WORKS

Start with a project review.

  1. 1
    Submit the interest form

Share the project’s charitable purpose, community served and basic plan. Do not include Social Security numbers, banking details or confidential documents.

  2. 2
Your Safe Space reviews fit and capacity

The team considers mission alignment, project readiness, responsibilities and available capacity. Submitting a form does not mean the project is accepted.

  3. 3
Schedule a conversation if it may be a fit

If the project advances, Your Safe Space will contact you to discuss the proposed work, funds, records, reporting and any applicable costs.

  4. 4
    Sign an agreement before fundraising

Fundraising through Your Safe Space begins only after approval and a written fiscal sponsorship agreement. Your Safe Space retains oversight of charitable funds.

Please do not submit passwords, Social Security numbers, bank details or sensitive personal information.

1023-EZ Application Assistance

$125 optional service fee

  • Submission guidance for the 501(c)(3) recognition application

You can complete and file Form 1023-EZ yourself at Pay.gov if eligible. The $125 is only for PFaye’s optional form assistance; it does not include the separate IRS user fee, formation, EIN, bylaws, policies, other documents, full Form 1023, grant writing, or additional consulting. The IRS determines eligibility and approval.

What your service fee covers

Your selected package pays PFaye for professional time, research, preparation, consulting, design and administrative support described in your written agreement.

What is paid separately

Secretary of State charges, IRS fees, 501(c)(3) application fees, domain or hosting costs, D-U-N-S or vendor charges, permits and other government or third-party expenses are not included unless stated in writing.

If you want PFaye to pay a fee

You must provide the full outside cost in advance, plus any additional processing or administrative fee disclosed in your agreement. PFaye cannot control, reduce or discount fees charged by the IRS, a Secretary of State or another third party.

Payment plans

Payment plans are available only for ILF setup and business-startup packages. A minimum of 50% is due before work begins, and the remaining schedule must be agreed to in writing.

SERVICE TERMS & CONFIDENTIALITY

Agreement before paid work; NDA when needed

Before paid services begin, the client and PFaye should sign a service agreement that states the package scope, deliverables, price, payment terms, outside fees and cancellation or refund terms. An NDA may also be used when confidential plans, original systems or proprietary materials will be shared. It is not required for every service and does not replace the service agreement.

Open the fillable NDA form

An NDA explains what information must stay private and how each party may use it. Clients may or may not be asked to sign one depending on the scope of services.

PFaye provides business-development, preparation and administrative support—not legal, tax or accounting advice. Package details are finalized in a written service agreement. Government approval, tax-exempt status, vendor approval, D-U-N-S issuance and processing times are controlled by the responsible agencies or third parties and cannot be guaranteed.

Visit FindTreatment.gov

Important: These websites can support visibility and relationship-building, but they do not guarantee acceptance, referrals or filled beds. Recovery.org and FindTreatment.gov are treatment-focused, and DomesticShelters.org is intended for domestic-violence programs. Use them to research and contact aligned agencies unless your facility qualifies for a direct listing.

Partner and agency outreach does not guarantee referrals, placements or filled beds. Clients are responsible for meeting all state, local, zoning, licensing, insurance and safety requirements that apply to their facility. Travel, furniture purchases, delivery and on-site setup are not included in the listed package price unless added in writing.
